Strzyzykowski, Carolyn
.
Carolyn began her work as a Chaplain in 1990, immediately after becoming an Adventist.

"I was the most unlikely candidate to begin a chaplaincy department as I had only had 3 weeks of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) when I became director of pastoral care at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph, Michigan..  I completed four units of CPE during my first four years there."

Carolyn (now a board certified chaplain) worked at Lakeland Hospital for a total of eight years. From there she transfered to Florida Hospital in Orlando where she served as a chaplain for two years. She found it especially gratifying to work as a part of a team, rather than a solo chaplain. After her father died, she returned to Michigan where she served as relief chaplain at St. Joseph Medical Center in Mishawaka, Indiana, for two years. She worked four years as part of Adventist Health Midwest, serving mainly at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital in Hinsdale, Illinois.

During her 16 years of pastoral ministry she had the privilege of working in almost every aspect of acute health care. Some of her favorite areas have been Psych, Maternity, and Out-Patient Surgery. She found crisis ministry also to be a blessing.

"The very best aspect of ministry for me," Carolyn says, "has been my relationships with the wonderful staff."
