Penny Shell, Ed.D., M.A., M.A. Director Meet Penny: Penny Shell became WRCs full-time director in the fall of 2002. She had been full-time associate director since January 2000. She also serves as pastor for visitation for the La Sierra University Church. She brings a combination of skills and 16 years experience as a staff and then administrative chaplain. For 17 years, she taught English in the United States and Singapore. She is a communicator and published writer, a certified chaplain, and has a track record of working effectively on womens issues in the Adventist Church. She was the first woman to become president of the Seventh-day Adventist Healthcare Chaplains Association (SDAHCA). In September 1995, she was among the first three women ordained to gospel ministry by the Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church. While living in Chicago, Illinois, during the nineteen-eighties, she obtained training from a volunteer organization and served as an advocate for rape victims. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Penny has a special affinity for the citys landmark arch, Gateway to the West, which her father helped to build. She earned M.A. degrees in education and religion, and an Ed.D. in religious education from Andrews University. Her doctoral dissertation focuses on continuing education issues for ministers. Kit Watts, M.A., M.S.L.I.S Special Projects Coordinator Meet Kit: Kit Watts, Womens Resource Center (WRC) special projects coordinator, came to La Sierra University in April of 1997 with experience as a writer, editor, pastor, teacher, and librarian, as well as 25 years of advocacy for Adventist women. She was the founding director of the Womens Resource Center for five years. In the years before coming to the WRC, she had been an assistant editor of the Adventist Review where she coordinated the production of four special issues of the general church paper that focused on issues of concern to Adventist women. She had also served as a member of four General Conference commissions on the Role of Women in the Church and as historian for the Association of Adventist women. Currently, Kit works full time as assistant to the president for communication, Southeast California Conference. Early in her career, Kit worked for the General Conference Bureau of Public Relations and as an assistant book editor for the Review and Herald Publishing Association. In 1973, she was the first woman to join the pastoral staff of Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church, where her work included a ministry with publications. Her academic training includes an M.A. in religion from Andrews University and a M.S.L.I.S from the University of Maryland.
